Which embroidery fleece for applications?

Embroidery fleeces are used to stabilize fabrics and materials to be embroidered. The specialist shop and the online trade have many different embroidery fleeces in store. But always the question arises: Which embroidery fleece for applications should I take? In this article, we present different embroidery fleece for applications, explain the sandwich technology, give general tips on the good adhesive result and show which embroidery fleece are suitable for which fabrics.

Which embroidery fleece for my application?

The answer to the question, which embroidery fleece should be taken for applications in order to get an optimal embroidery result depends entirely on the material to be embroidered. For solid materials, e.g. Jeans, an equally strong embroidery fleece should be used.

If the fabric to be embroidered is elastic, e.g. Jersey, the fleece should also be correspondingly elastic. For this purpose, different manufacturers offer corresponding elastic fleece.

In some embroidery projects, the use of water-soluble embroidery fleece makes sense, e.g. If you embroidered terry cloth. This is where sandwich technique is used, which is described in the following paragraph.

What is sandwich technique?

In the case of sandwich technique, the fabric to be embroidered or the material to be embroidered is clamped between two layers of embroidery fleece in the embroidery frame, for example in terry cloth. For stabilization, a solid embroidery web is used for applications on the underside, while a water-soluble fleece or embroidery film is stuck on the upper side of the embroidery frame. Thus the sticker result becomes uniform.

What is the thickness of the embroidery fleece?

As with paper, the thickness of the embroidery web is excellent in grams per square meter (g / m2). For thin, inelastic materials, a thin nonwoven fleece is sufficient for stabilization. Thicker fabrics should also be stabilized with thicker fleece.

Spray adhesive to fix

You may know spraying glue from the craft kit. As an alternative to the relatively expensive self-adhesive or ironable nonwoven fabric, spray adhesives can also be used for fixing substances. This also sticks the needle not so strongly. A special spraying adhesive from the sewing accessories loses its adhesive force independently after some time.

Especially for elastic fabrics such as jersey, spray glue is a good tip for fixing and reinforcing with the embroidery fleece.

Tuck into the embroidery frame

Now you have selected the right embroidery fleece for your project. For a perfect embroidery result, there are also some important notes during clamping. The embroidery fleece for applications has to be slightly larger than the embroidery frame so that the margins can be pulled in all directions in the embroidery frame for subsequent tensioning. The fabric to be embroidered has to be wrinkle-free and also tightly clamped. However, the fabric must not be stretched, otherwise the fabric as well as the embroidery motif will distort.
