What started in 1925 as an electrical distribution company by Marit's great-grandmother is now a specialist shop for sewing and embroidery machines – and one that operates with passion. It was never really planned. But when Marit and Mark themselves got into machine embroidery, it quickly became clear: the gap in sound advice and real expertise was too big to ignore.
While specialist shops are disappearing elsewhere (often due to age), we are expanding. With a small, well-rehearsed team that loves technology, takes advice seriously, and works daily on makema.de. We don't stand still – we listen, test ourselves, and make complicated things simple.

Our story
1925
Founding
At 21 years old, Marit's great-grandfather, Willi Heinen, was transferred to Hamburg to manage the newly founded cable distribution company.
Before that, he had made a name for himself as a young errand boy at Kabelwerk Duisburg.
1978
New premises at Lademannbogen
Uwe Heinen, an engineer, takes over as head of cable sales in the second generation and builds the new location at Lademannbogen.
He devoted himself to the company with passion until old age.
1990
The third generation is female
In the third generation, daughters Birgit and Christine enter the male-dominated field and successfully continue the business.
2016
Founding of Make ma!
Marit and Mark found Make ma oHG. Starting with YouTube videos and reviews of embroidery and sewing machines, their passion project grows rapidly.
2022
Acquisition of the GmbH
Marit and Mark are authorized dealers in the sewing machine industry. To create a clearer company structure, they are dissolving the existing oHG, taking over the dormant family GmbH, and continuing it under the new name Make ma GmbH.
2025
The company’s 100th anniversary
We've received an official letter: Congratulations on our 100th anniversary. We're celebrating this special occasion with a courtyard festival and the grand reopening of our store.
What once began with cables, we continue – today we advise on the devices that plug in.
