The BERNINA L 460 is a high-quality 2-, 3-, and 4-thread overlocker for clean, durable seams and professionally finished fabric edges. It sews, cuts, and finishes in one step, making it the ideal complement to your sewing machine – especially for clothing made from jersey, sweatshirt fabric, knit fabrics, woven fabrics, or delicate materials.
With its 16 stitch variations, it offers versatile options for classic overlock seams, stable 4-thread safety seams, elastic super-stretch seams, flatlock seams, rolled hems, rolled seams, and decorative edge finishes. This allows you to precisely and neatly process T-shirts, underwear, sportswear, children's clothing, home textiles, or patchwork projects.
The patented mtc thread control ensures particularly clean edge wrapping. The mtc lever allows fine adjustment of the looper thread amount without having to re-tension all threads. This saves time when changing materials and helps you achieve consistent results even with different fabric thicknesses.
For jersey and other elastic fabrics, the continuously adjustable differential feed is particularly helpful. It prevents unwanted waving in stretchable materials and reduces puckering in fine woven fabrics. At the same time, you can use it specifically to gather fabrics or create decorative wavy edges.
A special comfort feature of the L 460 is the BERNINA Free Hand System with knee lifter. This allows you to temporarily lift the presser foot with your knee while both hands remain on the fabric. This noticeably facilitates the precise guiding of fine, multi-layered, or larger projects.
The powerful DC motor and the BERNINA foot control enable very controlled sewing speed – from precise stitch-by-stitch sewing to fast overlock seams. The automatic needle stop at the top facilitates threading as well as inserting and removing the fabric. With the back-kick function of the foot control, you can also specifically influence the needle position.
Two LED lights provide bright illumination of the needle and looper area. Color-coded threading paths, a lower looper threading aid, and the manual needle threader make threading comprehensible and comfortable. The included extension table expands the working area and supports you especially with larger garments, long seams, and home textiles.
Characteristics
The BERNINA L 460 combines classic mechanical overlock technology with well-thought-out comfort features. The mtc thread control allows for fine adjustment of the looper threads for neatly enclosed fabric edges. Together with the adjustable cutting width, stitch length, and differential feed, the machine can be flexibly adapted to different materials and sewing techniques.
The foot control with DC motor offers very precise speed control. This allows you to sew slowly and with control around curves, fabric transitions, or delicate edges, while also working quickly on longer seams. The automatic needle stop up and the back-kick function make it easier to stop, position, and continue guiding the fabric.
The BERNINA Free Hand System with knee lever is particularly comfortable. It allows you to temporarily raise the presser foot without having to release the fabric. Operating comfort is further enhanced by the large slide-on table, the two LED lights in the sewing and looper areas, and the clearly marked threading paths. The safety mechanism prevents the machine from sewing as long as the presser foot is raised or a cover is open.
Application
The BERNINA L 460 is suitable for sewing, cutting, and finishing fabrics in a single operation. It is particularly well-suited for clothing made from jersey, sweatshirt fleece, knits, and wovens, as well as for home textiles, accessories, patchwork, and decorative edge finishes.
Use the 4-thread overlock for strong seams, for example on shirts, trousers, or sportswear. With 3-thread overlock stitches, you can quickly and neatly finish individual fabric edges. Flatlock seams are suitable for flat connecting seams or decorative effects, while rolled hems professionally finish delicate fabric edges on blouses, ruffles, lingerie, or scarves.
The differential feed supports you with stretchy fabrics like jersey and prevents unwanted waving. For ruffles and intentionally gathered fabric edges, you can deliberately adjust it differently. Before sewing, it is always recommended to do a short test seam with the fabric and thread you will be using.

Du suchst die beste Qualität, Freiarm und den besten Support? Dann bist du mit der Bernina B500 bei Make ma perfekt aufgehoben. Ich hatte vorab wirklich 1 Mio. Fragen, dass es mir schon fast peinlich war. Aber Marit hat alle Fragen vorab beantwortet. Ursprünglich wollte ich die Bernette B70 haben, aber die Vorteile vom Freiarm, die intuitive Bedienung machen die schöne Maschine für mich perfekt. Ich würde gerne mehr Sterne geben, weil ihr einfach sehr modern seid!! Davon können scih andere noch eine Scheibe abschneiden, so viel verstaubte Geschäfte da draußen.
Ich bin total happy mit der Brother Celeste Stickmaschine. Besonders die Zwei-Punkt-Positionierung ist für mich ein echtes Highlight – damit lässt sich das Motiv viel genauer platzieren, was im Alltag einfach super hilfreich ist.
Vor dem Kauf wurde ich vom Team von Makema.de richtig gut beraten. Alle meine Fragen wurden geduldig beantwortet, sodass ich ein sehr gutes Gefühl hatte. Am Ende habe ich die Maschine sogar direkt vor Ort abgeholt, weil ich das Schätzchen unbedingt sofort mitnehmen wollte.
Seit inzwischen 6 Wochen ist sie bei mir im Einsatz und ich bin immer noch begeistert: Sie stickt leise, schnell und sehr sauber. Für mich bisher eine richtig gute Entscheidung.
Die Brother F580 als kombinierte Näh- und Stickmaschine ist einfach genial. Sehr schnell umgebaut, einfach in der Bedienung und ein wirklich(!) sehr ruhiges Nähen. Super!
Nachdem ich von der Singer SE auf die Bernina gewechselt bin, hatte ich erst ein paar Bedenken. Aber jetzt möchte ich die Bernina nicht mehr missen! Bin super zufrieden!
