Simply thread. Precisely overlock.
The BERNINA one-step air threader guides the looper threads through the machine with a single press of the foot pedal. No handwheel, no complicated paths, and both hands free for the thread. Together with the mtc thread control, differential feed, and easily accessible settings, this creates neat, professional edges – perfectly matched to your fabric and your design.
One press of a pedal instead of complicated threading.
A good overlocker not only makes seams faster, it changes how a project feels. The BERNINA L 850 accompanies you from the first cut to the last seam with clear operation, precise stitch control, and a comfort that is particularly noticeable in clothing. Air threading of looper threads, secure fabric guidance and neat edge finishing: This is how a beautiful fabric becomes a garment that impresses even on the inside.
Product details
overview
The BERNINA L 850 is a high-quality overlock machine for anyone who wants to cleanly finish fabric edges, professionally sew elastic seams, and process their clothing or home textiles with a reliable machine. As a pure overlocker, it works with two, three, or four threads and cuts, sews, and finishes in one operation. This saves time, ensures durable seams, and gives your projects a clean finish inside and out.
At its heart is the one-step BERNINA Air Threader. The looper threads are guided through the machine by air: You hold the threads to the threading ports, press the foot control, and the machine takes over the threading. The loopers are automatically moved to the correct position. This makes changing threads and stitches significantly more pleasant, especially for projects with different materials or colors.
The BERNINA L 850 deliberately forgoes a touchscreen and relies on direct, easily accessible adjustment options. Stitch length, differential feed, cutting width, thread tension, and presser foot pressure can be individually adapted to the fabric, thread, and technique. With the mtc thread control, you can finely regulate the amount of looper thread. This cleanly encloses the fabric edge without you having to change several settings simultaneously for minor corrections.
For comfortable working, the L 850 features an integrated needle threader, color-coded threading paths, and a swing-out presser foot. This provides excellent access to needles, threads, and the sewing area. The BERNINA Free-Hand System with knee lever temporarily raises the presser foot while both hands remain on the fabric. This is a noticeable advantage, especially for curves, corners, or multi-layered projects.
The generous sewing area and the free arm make it easier to process clothing. Cuffs, sleeves, trouser legs, or necklines can be comfortably guided over the free arm. At the same time, the powerful DC motor provides consistent piercing power and precise stitch formation – both at high speed and when sewing slowly and controllably or working stitch by stitch.
With its 18 stitch variations, the BERNINA L 850 covers the most important overlock techniques: from stable 4-thread seams to elastic super-stretch seams, flat seams, rolled hems, roll seams, edge finishes, and decorative scallop stitches. This makes it suitable for jersey, sweatshirt fabric, knits, fine woven fabrics, silk, linen, fleece, or denim, and it is a strong addition to a high-quality sewing machine.
Characteristics
With the BERNINA L 850, you work with direct, manual stitch control at a high level. All central settings are accessible on the outside of the machine and can be adjusted to suit fabric, thread and technique. These include thread tension, stitch length, cutting width, differential feed, rolled hem setting, mtc thread control and presser foot pressure. This means you can start with the recommended basic settings and also optimize each stitch specifically for your project.
The One-Step BERNINA Air Threader makes threading the loopers much easier. It is complemented by color-coded threading paths and an integrated needle threader. For better access to the needle area, the presser foot swings out to the side and automatically returns to its working position when lowered. The BERNINA Free-Hand System with knee lever keeps your hands on the fabric while the presser foot is raised.
The L 850's demands are also evident when sewing: the free arm supports you with tubular items, the generous clearance facilitates fabric guidance, and the LED sewing light ensures good visibility in the sewing and looper area. The automatic needle stop up, the needle up/down function via the foot control, and stitch-by-stitch sewing give you control in areas where precision is crucial.
Application
The BERNINA L 850 is suitable for sewing, cutting, and finishing fabric edges in a single step. It is ideal for clothing made from jersey, sweatshirt fabric, knits, and other elastic materials, but also processes fine wovens, silk, linen, fleece, or denim.
Use the machine for durable overlock seams, neat interior edges, rolled hems, decorative flatlock seams, or elastic seams for sportswear, underwear, and children's clothing. The differential feed helps you sew jersey without waves or intentionally gather fine fabric layers. The free arm allows you to comfortably work on closed areas such as cuffs, sleeves, trouser legs, and necklines.
Select the desired stitch using the stitch chart, thread the machine along the color-coded paths, and adjust thread tension, stitch length, cutting width, and differential feed to your material. For the loopers, use the one-step BERNINA air threader. The machine is designed for overlock needles of the ELX705 CF system. Heavily waxed or coated hand-sewing threads should not be threaded through the air channels.

Bin super zufrieden!
