The BERNINA L 860 helps you create professional edges, elastic seams, and clean finishes in a well-planned workflow. As a dedicated overlock machine, it sews, cuts, and finishes fabric edges in one step. It is especially suitable for jersey, sweat, knits, and other elastic materials, but also reliably processes delicate wovens, sturdy cotton, or multi-layered fabrics.
You select the desired stitch via the centrally located color touchscreen and keep all important settings in view. In guided mode, the machine guides you step-by-step through the preparation. Expert mode, on the other hand, offers direct access to the settings if you already know exactly which stitch you want to sew. Sewing advisors, tutorials, help functions, and stitch optimizers support you in finding suitable settings for fabric and thread.
The One-Step BERNINA Air Threader takes much of the complexity out of threading the loopers. A press of the foot control is all it takes for the looper threads to be guided through the machine by air. An integrated needle threader is also available for the needles. Color-coded, uniform threading paths ensure that switching between overlock, flatlock, and rolled hem stitches remains clear.
The L 860 is particularly strong in individual stitch control. Thread tension, stitch length, differential feed, cutting width, and mtc thread control can be adjusted to your material and changed during sewing. Your own settings for recurring fabric and thread combinations can be saved. This turns a fast overlock machine into a precise tool for demanding sewing projects.
The generous workspace, the practical free arm, and the BERNINA Free Hand System with knee lever make it easier to sew cuffs, sleeves, trouser legs, and other tubular projects. With its quiet operation, adjustable speed, and the option for stitch-by-stitch sewing, the L 860 combines high performance with controlled work.
Important: The BERNINA L 860 is a dedicated overlock machine. It does not sew cover or chain stitches. For cover stitches, a separate coverstitch machine or an overlock/coverstitch combo is recommended.
Characteristics
The BERNINA L 860 focuses on combining clear operation with precise overlock technology. The color touchscreen guides you through stitch selection and provides recommended basic values for thread tension, stitch length, and differential feed. At the same time, there is enough freedom to individually adapt each setting to the fabric, thread, and desired stitch pattern.
The One-Step BERNINA Air Threader threads the looper threads with the help of the foot control. Both hands remain free to guide the threads securely. This system is complemented by the integrated needle threader, color-coded threading paths, and a swing-out presser foot. This makes threading, needle changes, and placing threads significantly more comfortable.
The mtc thread control ensures clean edges. It allows for fine adjustment of the loop thread amount so that the fabric edge is cleanly enclosed. Together with the adjustable differential feed, customizable cutting width, and adjustable presser foot pressure, this results in a high level of control over the stitch pattern – from very delicate materials to more stable fabrics.
The BERNINA Free Hand System with knee lifter raises and lowers the presser foot while both hands can remain on the fabric. The free arm makes sewing closed textiles easier. Complemented by the slide-on table, a comfortable work surface is created for small details as well as larger garment projects.
Application
The BERNINA L 860 is used for sewing, cutting, and finishing fabric edges. It is ideal for self-sewn apparel, sportswear and loungewear, children's clothing, jersey projects, sweatshirts, knit fabrics, home textiles, and decorative edge finishes.
With its 2-, 3-, and 4-thread stitches, you can sew fabrics together, finish edges, create highly elastic seams for jersey, or finish lightweight fabrics with a fine rolled hem. Flatlock stitches, picot stitches, and scallop stitches open up additional possibilities for decorative details. The differential feed assists with difficult materials: it helps prevent waves in jersey, transports fabric layers evenly, or gathers edges precisely.
For projects with closed shapes, such as cuffs, sleeves, or trouser legs, the freearm simplifies handling. If you want to sew a decorative edge without trimming, the knife can be disengaged from the outside.

Du suchst die beste Qualität, Freiarm und den besten Support? Dann bist du mit der Bernina B500 bei Make ma perfekt aufgehoben. Ich hatte vorab wirklich 1 Mio. Fragen, dass es mir schon fast peinlich war. Aber Marit hat alle Fragen vorab beantwortet. Ursprünglich wollte ich die Bernette B70 haben, aber die Vorteile vom Freiarm, die intuitive Bedienung machen die schöne Maschine für mich perfekt. Ich würde gerne mehr Sterne geben, weil ihr einfach sehr modern seid!! Davon können scih andere noch eine Scheibe abschneiden, so viel verstaubte Geschäfte da draußen.
Ich bin total happy mit der Brother Celeste Stickmaschine. Besonders die Zwei-Punkt-Positionierung ist für mich ein echtes Highlight – damit lässt sich das Motiv viel genauer platzieren, was im Alltag einfach super hilfreich ist.
Vor dem Kauf wurde ich vom Team von Makema.de richtig gut beraten. Alle meine Fragen wurden geduldig beantwortet, sodass ich ein sehr gutes Gefühl hatte. Am Ende habe ich die Maschine sogar direkt vor Ort abgeholt, weil ich das Schätzchen unbedingt sofort mitnehmen wollte.
Seit inzwischen 6 Wochen ist sie bei mir im Einsatz und ich bin immer noch begeistert: Sie stickt leise, schnell und sehr sauber. Für mich bisher eine richtig gute Entscheidung.
Die Brother F580 als kombinierte Näh- und Stickmaschine ist einfach genial. Sehr schnell umgebaut, einfach in der Bedienung und ein wirklich(!) sehr ruhiges Nähen. Super!
Nachdem ich von der Singer SE auf die Bernina gewechselt bin, hatte ich erst ein paar Bedenken. Aber jetzt möchte ich die Bernina nicht mehr missen! Bin super zufrieden!
