Application

First, insert the appropriate interchangeable sole into the walking foot. Use the standard sole for general sewing, the quilting sole for machine-guided quilting lines, or the sole with center guide for narrow edge stitching and stitch-in-the-ditch sewing.

Install the walking foot on your BERNINA according to the operating instructions. The movable drive arm of the foot must be correctly connected to the needle mechanism. Then, by carefully turning the handwheel, check whether the needle, foot, and stitch plate can move freely.

Layer the fabric carefully and secure it with suitable clips or pins if necessary. Start at a reduced speed and check the stitch pattern on a test piece. Especially with elastic fabrics, coated materials, or thick quilt layers, a preliminary test seam is recommended.

For uniformly parallel seams, you can mount the right or left edge guide and set the desired distance. The guide then runs along a fabric edge or an already sewn line.

For decorative stitches, patterns with predominant forward movement should be chosen if possible. Decorative stitches with numerous or long backward sequences are less suitable for mechanical walking feet.
