Lower the feed dogs, attach the extension table if possible, and select the straight stitch. Adjust the presser foot height so that your quilt project can move freely under the foot without resistance. Then, stitch along a ¼-inch-thick template or, for free-motion quilting, guide the fabric evenly by hand. A straight stitch plate can further improve the stitch quality.
