overview

Have you always wanted to knit a Norwegian sweater?

Then you'll find the perfect, easy-to-follow instructions here. This fashionable Norwegian sweater for men is cozy and soft and incredibly warm. The fashionable companion for cold winters.

Which yarn should I use to knit a Norwegian sweater?

For this Norwegian sweater we used the yarn "Norvika" from GGH.Norvikais a blended yarn made from Norwegian sheep's wool, alpaca, and polyamide/organic polyamide. The manufacturer calls it "Viking Wool." The yarn has a yardage of 65 m/50 g. The yarn consists of three fluffy individual threads twisted together. This makes the yarn light and soft. According to the manufacturer's instructions, it should be knitted with a 7-8 mm needle size. After testing the gauge, I decided to use a 6 mm needle size.

Application

How to knit the Norwegian sweater

The Norwegian sweater is knitted from four pieces: the top-knitted round yoke, the round-knitted body, and the bottom-knitted, round-knitted sleeves.

Of course, you can also knit the body and sleeves directly onto the round yoke. However, given the weight, the author Barbara decided to work the pieces separately first and then invisibly sew them to the round yoke with a slip stitch.

All steps are clearly explained in the instructions with pictures.

Required material

  • 11 balls of Norvika in dark blue 005 (I managed with 11 balls, which left me with about 5 meters of yarn left over. That was a tight squeeze. So I recommend planning for an extra ball.)
  • 2 balls of Norvika in wool white 002
  • 2 balls of Norvika in light blue 004
  • Circular knitting needles size 6 mm, 50 cm and 100 cm – if available, a cable system that can be extended.
  • Circular knitting needle size 4.5 mm, 80 cm
  • Double pointed needles size 6 mm
  • Double pointed needles size 4.5 mm
  • 5 smaller circular knitting needles for parking the stitches
  • sewing needle
  • 17 + 1 stitch marker (a separate one for the beginning of the round – possibly a stitch marker for opening)
  • 8 safety pins
