overview

Water has a special attraction for children from an early age. When they float a boat in a bowl, the paddling pool, or the bathtub, their imaginations run wild. Is it a sailing ship, taking them on an adventure to faraway lands? Or perhaps even a pirate ship on a raid? Blow hard, and the wind threatens to capsize the ship. But sailor Fietje will sort it out. Little sailors who love such ship-related games will definitely be delighted with a pretty pair of children's socks with a sailing ship on each side of the leg.

Knitting the Sailor FietjeSocks is sure to be a challenge, as there are always new challenges. First, you start with the Estonian cast-on. After the cuff, the basic construction of the ship follows using the intarsia technique. The heart-shaped heel joins the shaft. The foot features stripes of varying widths to prevent stair-steps, and the sock ends with a slingshot toe. Finally, the mast and flag are embroidered to complete the design.

As with many of my sock designs, I would like to convey special knitting techniques with the Matrose FietjeSocks:
