overview

QuinSocks are unusual toe-up socks for men and women. They are knitted from the toe up to the cuff.

Starting the toe is often considered tricky for toe-up sock knitters. Therefore, QuinSocks use a boomerang heel as the toe. To do this, half of the stitches must first be provisionally cast on. Once the "heel" at the toe is complete, the provisionally cast-on stitches are added back and knitting continues in the round.

The QuinSocks pattern is a decorative, easy-to-knit knit-purl stitch. The sole is purl-knitted with a central, interrupted stripe of knit stitches.

Toe-Up sock knitters had been asking for a while now to work the heel increase with its great fit in a toe-up version. We've been working hard on this, and it's now being used for the first time in our QuinSocks pattern.

The sole stripe continues uninterrupted down the back of the leg. At the same time, the ribbed cuff pattern is gradually built up as a visual highlight.

Finally, the cuff is bound off elastically with a turn-up.

As with many sockshype sock designs, QuinSocks also use special knitting techniques:

  • Provisional cast-on with the crochet hook
  • Boomerang heel with wrap stitches as toe
  • Sole left-knitted with a central interrupted stripe
  • Simple rib pattern on the upper foot
  • Increase heel toe up
  • Start of the rib pattern for the cuff gradually on the back of the leg
  • Elastic cast-off with yarn over
