Sulky Filaine

Sulky Filaine is a high-quality, vegan acrylic yarn (weight 12 / No. 50) specially developed to give embroidery a soft, fluffy feel. Whether on wool, knit, or sturdy fabrics, Filaine creates a hand-felted look through brushing, bringing rustic designs to life. It's especially suitable for quilting, overlocking, visible repairs, and traditional embroidery.
Material: 100% polyacrylic, Oeko-Tex certified – tear- and abrasion-resistant, machine washable with NM 90–100 needles.

As if embroidered by hand

The Filaine yarn is a high-quality and easy-to-work material. Its 12-gauge thickness gives it a hand-stitched look. And Marit's Christmas motifs are yoga for the eyes.

We, Marit and Mark, have studied the techniques for working with "Filaine" in depth. Here are some valuable tips for achieving optimal stitching results:

Use a 90-gauge Top Stitch needle. The larger eye and thread guide work perfectly with 12-gauge yarn.

For a lovely furry effect, we recommend using an extra-hard wire brush. Brush with light pressure until you achieve the desired cuddly effect.

To avoid damaging the fabric to be embroidered when brushing, place a layer ofUltra Solvyonto your fabric. After brushing, you can tear it away completely.

1. Choose your motif and fabric (e.g. wool, knit or patchwork).
2. Equip your machine with a NM 90-100 needle and optionally use bobbin thread such as Sulky Bobbin.
3. Embroider your motif at normal speed. For a brushed effect, choose special Filament embroidery files or short stitches.
4. After embroidering, carefully brush the yarn with a Filaine-Brush wire brush until the desired fluffiness is achieved.
