BERNINA Gathering Foot #16 (narrow)

The BERNINA Gathering Foot #16 narrow was developed for decorative gathering on light to medium-weight fabrics. Its design supports the uneven feeding of the bottom fabric layer, creating characteristic ruffles during sewing. The special cut-out also allows a plain fabric layer to be sewn on simultaneously without being gathered. This enables ruffles, flounces, and decorative fabric edgings to be sewn efficiently in a single step. The narrow version is designed for BERNINA sewing machines with a 5.5 mm stitch width.

Use the BERNINA Gathering Foot #16 narrow on a compatible BERNINA sewing machine with a 5.5 mm stitch width. For simple gathering, guide one layer of fabric under the presser foot. The uneven feeding creates the typical gathering effect while sewing.

If a gathered fabric layer is to be sewn directly onto a flat piece of fabric, the flat material is inserted into the notch of the presser foot. The lower fabric layer is gathered, while the upper layer remains flat. Before starting the actual project, it is recommended to do a short sewing test with the fabric you are using, so that stitch length, fabric guidance, and the desired gathering effect can be optimally coordinated.
