Characteristics

The BERNINA Shirring Foot #12C has a wide groove in its sole, which creates the necessary clearance when working with voluminous materials. This makes it particularly suitable for heavy knitwear, thick cords, leather strips, and other raised elements. The asymmetrically designed sole supports even feeding of thicker or slightly wavy fabrics. An integrated guide hole facilitates overstitching of reinforcing thread and opens up additional decorative design possibilities. The foot is also suitable for attaching cords, pearl strands, and sequins, as well as for making and inserting piping. It was developed for BERNINA sewing machines with a 9 mm stitch width.

Application

Mount the Knit Foot #12C on a compatible BERNINA 9mm sewing machine and position the material under the presser foot as usual. The wide groove in the sole accommodates thicker layers of material, cords, or leather strips. When sewing knit fabrics, it helps guide them evenly without unnecessary bunching.

For overstitching couching threads, thread the thread through the guide hole on the foot and then secure it with a stitch suitable for the project. Thick cords, strands of beads, or sequins can be guided in the sole groove and sewn on. For piping, the cord is inserted along the fabric edge and securely caught during sewing. Before starting the actual project, it is always recommended to perform a sewing test with original material, suitable needle, thread, and stitch selection.
