SULKY Solvy – Water-Soluble Embroidery Film

SULKY Solvy is a thin, transparent, water-soluble embroidery film with a thickness of 25 µm. Used as a topping on terry cloth, velvet, corduroy and fleece, it prevents stitches from sinking into the pile. It can also be used as a backing when both sides of the embroidery need to remain visible. After embroidery, carefully tear away the film or wash it out with water. On high-pile fabrics, using Solvy as a topping does not automatically replace an embroidery backing suited to the project.

Available roll sizes: 0.25 m × 10 m (2.5 m²), 0.5 m × 10 m (5 m²), 0.5 m × 25 m (12.5 m²).

Product details

overview

The softer and more voluminous a fabric, the more difficult it is to achieve a clean stitch. Stitches can easily "disappear" in the pile, and details can appear blurred or washed out. This is where SULKY SOLVY comes in: The thin, transparent film is applied to the fabric during embroidery. It keeps the surface smooth and compact – for perfectly visible stitches, fine lines, and clear shapes.

After embroidery, the film is simply washed out with water – leaving no residue. It can also be used as a base, for example, for transparent fabrics, towels, or scarves where both sides should remain visible.

Versatile: As an embroidery overlay, sewing aid, embroidery template, for 3D work, trapunto, appliqués, or buttonholes. Especially suitable for knitwear, jersey, plush, terry cloth, organza, or tulle.

FAQ

Further information in our frequently asked questions.

Do I need to tear out or wash SULKY SOLVY after embroidering?

After embroidery, the foil is roughly torn off and then wiped or washed off with cold water – without leaving any residue.

For which types of fabric is SOLVY particularly suitable?

For deep-pile fabrics such as terry cloth, plush, velour, jersey, organza and fine knits – anywhere where stitches would otherwise “disappear”.
