Small? Yes. Harmless? Not really. The bernette b50 models show how much comfort, technology, and creative freedom can now fit into compact machines – from clever sewing to smart embroidery.

Compact doesn't have to mean small. The new bernette b50 models from the BERNINA family demonstrate exactly that. They are not machines that can only "somehow sew" or "do a little embroidery." They want more: to work more modernly, operate more intuitively, support creativity more effectively – while still remaining user-friendly.

With the bernette 57 and the bernette 59, the bernette series gains two machines that excel at one thing above all: removing barriers. Less screwing, less puzzling, less "where was that function again?" – and more comfort, more clarity, and more desire to simply get started.

More than just a new machine series

The b50 series is aimed at anyone looking for a modern machine but who doesn't want unnecessarily complicated technology. It is compactly built but doesn't feel stripped down. On the contrary: many features that one would previously have expected from significantly larger or higher-positioned machines find their place here.

These include a 3.5-inch color touchscreen, pleasantly clear operation, automatic thread cutter, speed control, upper and lower thread monitors, and comfortable needle threading. Sounds like comfort? It is. But not just for convenience, but because such functions truly make a difference in everyday use.

Especially those who sew are familiar with these small interruptions: changing the needle plate, threading the thread, sewing slowly at tricky spots, searching for settings, guiding the fabric cleanly. The b50 models address precisely these points – not with loud technological fanfare, but with functions that make the sewing flow noticeably smoother.

Click & Lift: small feature, big difference

One of the most exciting special features is the Click & Lift needle plate. Instead of screwdrivers, fiddling, and "where did that tiny screw go?", the needle plate is lifted at the touch of a button and can be changed without tools.

This may sound unspectacular at first glance. But it isn't. Anyone who regularly switches between different applications knows: the faster the machine is prepared, the more likely you are to do it correctly. A suitable needle plate can improve the stitch pattern, better support the material, and enable cleaner results, especially for fine or precise work.

The b50 series turns this change from a small workshop operation into a quick maneuver. It's precisely these details that ensure a machine not only feels well-equipped in everyday life, but is truly enjoyed.

bernette 57: Sewing with comfort and creative freedom

The bernette 57 is the pure sewing machine of the b50 series – and it is anything but simple. With 515 stitches including 3 alphabets, it offers a wide selection for utility stitches, decorative stitches, quilting stitches, buttonholes, and creative details.

Particularly practical is the combination of a color touchscreen, automatic thread cutter, comfort needle threader, and speed regulator. This makes the b57 suitable not only for classic sewing projects, but also for detailed work, quilts, clothing, accessories, and creative experiments.

The extension table is also included directly. This is a real advantage, especially for larger projects, because the fabric lies better and can be guided more smoothly. Anyone who has ever tried to move a quilt, a large bag, or longer fabric panels cleanly on a small work surface knows: space is not a luxury. Space is a lifesaver.

bernette 59: Sewing and embroidering in a compact system

The bernette 59 goes a step further. It combines sewing and embroidery in one machine, bringing a great deal of creative freedom to a relatively compact space.

Here too, 515 stitches including 3 alphabets are available. In addition, the b59 offers 268 integrated embroidery designs and 11 embroidery alphabets. The maximum embroidery area is 120 × 180 mm. With the included multi-position embroidery hoop, the embroidery area can be extended up to 120 × 300 mm – ideal for longer lettering, borders, or larger motifs.

The special thing is that the fabric doesn't have to be completely re-hooped. The multi-position hoop allows for larger embroideries in multiple positions, while the fabric remains in the hoop. This helps to maintain more even tension and reduce shifting or distortion.

StitchDirect: When the machine is no longer alone on the table

A real highlight of the bernette 59 is the StitchDirect app. It expands the machine with a modern, mobile creative workspace. Designs can be created, edited, and combined on a smartphone or tablet, and then transferred to the machine via WiFi.

This significantly changes the entry into embroidery. Instead of having to delve deeply into software, file management, and complicated processes, ideas can be implemented more directly. Uploading your own images, tracing motifs, designing monograms, creating decorative stitches, or tracking the embroidery process live in the app – the b59 thus acts not like a classic stand-alone machine, but like a small creative system.

This is particularly exciting for anyone who wants to create personalized gifts, children's clothing, dog bandanas, bags, home decor, or small label projects. The idea doesn't have to be formed at the machine. It can start on the go, on the sofa, or in between using the app – and then be embroidered directly later.

Why do the b50 models stand out from the crowd?

Many compact machines try to be attractive primarily through their price. The b50 series takes a different approach. It doesn't feel like a machine where comfort has been sacrificed to keep it small. It offers features that truly matter in everyday use.

Operation is modern, but not cluttered. The machines are compact, but creatively diverse. The equipment is comfortable, but not unnecessarily playful. This exact mix makes them interesting.

Highlights include:

  • 3.5-inch color touchscreen with clear operation
  • Click & Lift stitch plate for tool-free stitch plate changes
  • Comfort needle threader
  • Automatic thread cutter
  • Upper and lower thread monitors
  • 515 stitches including 3 alphabets
  • 7 mm stitch width
  • Speed control up to 800 stitches per minute
  • 170 mm space to the right of the needle
  • Extension table included with the b57
  • Embroidery module and two embroidery hoops included with the b59
  • WiFi and StitchDirect app with the b59

This is equipment that doesn't feel like a "beginner's compromise." Rather, it feels like: someone here understood what's truly annoying about sewing and embroidering - and worked precisely on that.

Who are the b50 models suitable for?

The bernette 57 is suitable for anyone looking for a modern, comfortable sewing machine and valuing a large selection of stitches, easy operation, and practical convenience features. It's exciting for clothing, accessories, bags, patchwork, quilts, and creative sewing projects.

The bernette 59 is the right choice if you want to add embroidery to your sewing. It is particularly interesting for anyone who wants to personalize: names, small motifs, lettering, gifts, labels, children's clothing, home decor, or their own designs. Thanks to the app connection, it is also exciting for anyone who wants to think about embroidery in a more modern and intuitive way.

Compact, but not tame

The bernette b50 series shows that compact machines can do significantly more today. The b57 combines comfortable sewing with creative versatility. The b59 complements this with an embroidery function, app connectivity, and modern design possibilities.

What makes these machines stand out from the crowd is not just a single feature. It's the sum of user-friendliness, creative freedom, and thoughtful details. They are not huge, not intimidating, and not unnecessarily complicated. But they are surprisingly mature.

And that's what makes them exciting: The b50 models feel like machines for anyone who doesn't want to fight against technology before they can get creative. Turn on, thread, select, start - that's how modern sewing technology should be.
