For this project, we customized a simple Germany apron. Not as classic fan merchandise, but with a humorous slogan that was directly designed as an embroidery file and then embroidered onto the apron.
From text to embroidery file
For text to be embroidered cleanly, it's not enough to simply transfer it as an image to the machine. The text must be prepared as a true embroidery file. We used BERNINA Embroidery Software V9 Creator for this. This is especially practical for multi-line lettering, as the lines can be cleanly aligned and centered.
A practical tip: For text, it can be useful to deactivate the automatic trimming of jump stitches. This means the machine doesn't have to re-tie threads constantly, the embroidery appears calmer, and the lettering often looks more even. The jump stitches are simply removed with fine embroidery scissors after embroidering.
Proper hooping makes all the difference
The apron was hooped with a magnetic frame. This is particularly convenient because the fabric is not squeezed as much and can be positioned much more easily. For a clean result, we also added several layers of tear-away stabilizer underneath.
Stabilization is crucial for machine embroidery. Especially with finished textiles like aprons, shirts, or small gift projects, the right fleece ensures that the embroidery doesn't distort and the lettering remains clearly legible.
The right needle for synthetics
For synthetic textiles, a Microtex needle in size 70 is worthwhile. It stitches through the material particularly precisely and can visibly improve the embroidery. Especially with smoother fabrics or coated materials, this is a small difference with a big impact.
After embroidering, the individual layers of tear-away stabilizer are carefully removed. The jump stitches can then be neatly trimmed with very sharp embroidery scissors. Our recommendation for this is the KAI N5100, because it works extremely precisely and can easily reach even fine threads.
A quick gift for football season
This project shows: fan articles don't have to look store-bought. With an embroidery machine, some accessories, and a good idea, a simple apron becomes a personalized unique piece. Perfect as a small gift for a barbecue, public viewing, or simply for anyone who likes football merch with a wink.
