mySewnet and CREATIVE on Mac: What does the Rosetta warning mean?

When opening mySewnet Platinum or today's CREATIVATE Embroidery Software, some Macs display a notification that the app or individual components may no longer work in a future macOS version.

This sounds concerning at first. However, the message does not mean that the embroidery software cannot be used now or after the next regular macOS update. Apple is simply providing an early warning of a future change in support for Intel-based programs.

The manufacturer of the CREATIVATE software is aware of the issue and is already working on a solution to ensure the software can continue to be used on current Macs even after Apple's future changes.

What does Apple's warning message mean?

The warning indicates that mySewnet or CREATIVATE still contains at least one program component that was developed for Macs with Intel processors.

On newer Macs with an Apple chip – such as M1, M2, M3, or M4 – such Intel-based programs are executed using Rosetta. Rosetta automatically translates the software in the background so that it also works on a Mac with an Apple chip.

Therefore, the message usually does not mean that your Mac itself has an Intel processor. Rather, it refers to an Intel-based app or an Intel-based component of the software running on a Mac with an Apple chip.

Does mySewnet or CREATIVATE still work currently?

Yes. You can continue to use the software as usual.

Apple confirms that Rosetta for general execution of Intel-based programs will remain available up to and including macOS 27. General support for Intel-based apps via Rosetta is expected to be removed only with macOS 28.

The message is therefore initially a precautionary note and not an acute error.

Will the change take effect with the next macOS update?

No. As things stand, Rosetta will remain available under macOS 27.

The change will only become relevant with macOS 28. According to the manufacturer of CREATIVATE software, this is expected in autumn 2027.

While Apple itself confirms the transition from macOS 28 on its support page, it does not yet provide a specific release date. Therefore, autumn 2027 is the currently expected date, not a date already definitively published by Apple.

Do I have to forgo macOS updates now?

No. There is currently no reason not to install important security updates or regular macOS updates.

The software continues to function for now. However, before switching to macOS 28, you should check whether the manufacturer has already released the corresponding adapted version of CREATIVATE.

As with any major operating system update, it is also recommended to create a complete backup of your Mac and your embroidery files and projects beforehand.

Is the manufacturer already working on a solution?

Yes. According to the manufacturer, a solution is already being worked on so that CREATIVATE or mySewnet can continue to be used smoothly on Macs with Apple chips even after Apple's future changes.

Apple deliberately informs users and developers early. This gives software manufacturers enough time to convert their programs to a universal version or a version specifically developed for Apple chips.

As soon as we have further information on the adapted version or a necessary update, we will inform our customers about it.

Do I have to buy my mySewnet Platinum software again?

Currently, there is no reason to repurchase the software due to the warning message.

An existing full purchase version is neither deactivated nor does its license become invalid due to the message. The software can still be used.

It is not yet definitively known in what form the manufacturer will provide the later adaptation. A regular update or a new program version would be conceivable, for example. Therefore, we cannot yet definitively say whether every older full purchase version can be automatically and freely updated to the future version.

Does the warning only affect Macs with Apple chips?

Rosetta is needed on Macs with Apple chips to run programs originally developed for Intel processors.

These include, for example, Macs with:

• M1
• M2
• M3
• M4
• future Apple chips

On an older Mac with an Intel processor, Rosetta is not needed for an Intel-based application. The current warning therefore primarily refers to the future use of the software on Macs with an Apple chip.

How can I check if an app is Intel-based?

Here's how to check an app's architecture on your Mac:

1. In Finder, open the "Applications" folder.
2. Select the desired app.
3. Click "File" at the top, then "Get Info".
4. Check the entry next to "Kind".

It might say the following, for example:

Application (Intel):
The application was developed for Intel processors and requires Rosetta on a Mac with an Apple chip.

Application (Universal):
The application contains both an Intel version and a version for Apple chips.

Application (Apple Chip):
The application was developed directly for Apple Silicon and does not require Rosetta.

It is also possible that the main application has already been adapted, but an add-on program, a plug-in, or the updater still operates on an Intel basis. Therefore, the warning may appear even if only a single component is affected.

Is CREATIVATE fundamentally compatible with a Mac?

Yes. The manufacturer explicitly continues to offer CREATIVATE Embroidery Software for both Windows and macOS.

The currently published system requirements state macOS Catalina 10.15 or newer. At the same time, Intel processors are still listed there. This explains why the current Mac version partially requires Rosetta on devices with an Apple chip.

What do we currently recommend?

You can continue to use mySewnet or CREATIVATE as normal and provide your Mac with the currently available updates.

This issue is not expected to become important until a later upgrade to macOS 28.

Our recommendation:

• Continue to install normal security and macOS updates.
• Keep mySewnet or CREATIVATE up to date with the latest software.
• Regularly back up your embroidery files, projects, and personal settings.
• Before installing macOS 28, check the manufacturer's current compatibility message.
• For a completely new major macOS version, you may want to wait until the embroidery software's compatibility has been officially confirmed.

Summary

The warning message does not mean that mySewnet or CREATIVATE no longer works right now.

Apple still supports Intel-based apps on Macs with Apple chips via Rosetta up to and including macOS 27. This general support is only expected to be discontinued from macOS 28. According to the manufacturer, this will likely become relevant in autumn 2027.

The manufacturer is already working on a solution so that the CREATIVATE software can continue to be used on current Macs even after the transition. Until then, you can use the software normally and do not currently have to forgo macOS updates.
